My name is Jeff Magee and I have been helping folks build on and offline businesses since the mid 1990’s.
Years ago (late 90’s) I sold courses and offered personal coaching, consulting and teaching people how to build a business on and/or offline. Because I was so busy doing exactly what I teaching, I was forced to stop offering the courses, coaching and consulting.
I’m always skeptical when I hear about coaches or consultants offering their services to others. I know how busy I was running my own business and I made a lot more money doing what I taught than coaching or consulting others.
For the record, I charged a very high fee. With that being said, I still made a lot more doing for myself than I could if I coached or consulted all day long every day of the week. My point is, I don’t understand how so many offering to be a coach or consultant have the time to do it, especially if they are actually doing what they preach.
I do need to make a statement to the exception. Being a paid mentor or only taking on a few clients at a time is completely different. You can find the time to give back or pay it forward by agreeing to take on a few paying clients.
If you decide to go this route and look for a mentor make sure you know if they are a coach or a consultant. There is a big difference. If you are looking for someone to help you with organization or methods to get things done along with build a synergistic environment a coach may be all you need.
If you are looking for answers on how to build a business you will want to seek out a consultant. Either way may sure they have small groups that they work with so you will receive a lot of one on one time. Don’t just pay them before you take time to interview either. You must make sure you like them and have similar goals and values otherwise you will not get out of the mentor-ship, coaching or consulting what you so desire.
A lot of times coaches and/or consultants will make you fill out a long application or form. Most of the time they are trying to see how desperate you are and how much money you have to spend. Turn the tables, you make sure to interview them and make sure they are right for you.
It’s now time for me to pay it forward and move into the role I have been wanting to do for more than 26 years.
Before I get into that, let me back up and make a very important point. As you may or may not know, the first thing you have to do is determine “WHY”, why you want to build a business of your own. What do you fear or what pain do you want to avoid?
My “why” is a very simple two part answer. I wanted to provide myself and my family with the lifestyle that most people only dream about. It’s wasn’t about the money, more about the freedom for my family to do anything, live any place they like, and attend the best schools. The money will be a byproduct of my hard work making sure the items just mentioned are achieved.
And part two of my “why” was to build an asset that I can sell one day so I have an exit plan. This will allow me to retire or move on to another chapter in my business life, while maintaining my lifestyle.
Another benefit of building a business is if you allow your family to be involved, all your children will see how fulfilling owning your own business can be and success breeds success. In other words the best thing you can do is teach your children how to provide for themselves, and as I said earlier the money will come, it’s almost always (personally I think it is guaranteed) a byproduct of hard work.
There is a third reason for my “Why” but I don’t really like to talk about it. It’s very personal to me but I will share a little here. I love to be able to help others without them knowing where the help came from. I do this because I want to help and contribute to make someones life better whether it’s a monetary donation or providing someone with something such as transportation or groceries.
My point is, I don’t tell many people about this, since I don’t want others to think I’m any better than anyone else. I do NOT want the praise, I prefer to keep it between me and my maker. I am just very fortunate to be able to do the things I do.
Take a look at the “About Me” page. I wrote about what I am doing now, you may find it interesting.
My promise to you is simple, if you take the time to read that page and take action, I will take the time to help you build your very own business so one day you too will be able to do all the things you desire. Pay attention to the “Passive Income” part. You may be interested in that too.
After you read the page, please do me a favor and be thinking of your own personal “WHY”. It can be anything, there is no wrong answer, just did deep and make sure it is the true reason. Hint: If it doesn’t make your stomach hurt and/or bring tears to your eyes, you may need to dig a little deeper.
My Mission Statement: To help others build an on and/or offline business which will provide them with the opportunity to meet their financial and personal goals.
What are you waiting for, go check out my “About Me” page. I promise it will be worth your time.
To Your Success,
Jeff
